Young Scot Awards 2013: Jess Ryan, who triumphed over neglect and abuse, receives standing ovation as she is announced overall winner

21 April 2013 - The mum-of-one from Inverness was honoured for her charity work after surviving her own private hell.  She was hailed Young Scot 2013 at the climax of a special night of cheers and tears.  But, typically, as the audience rose in a standing ovation to her courage, the 22-year-olds first thoughts were for others suffering the same ordeal she had endured.

Jess, who bravely spoke out about her childhood neglect and sexual abuse to help other youngsters break free from similar trauma, said: I am here as living proof that things can change, things can get better.
